IGN – The Future of Entertainment on Xbox

IGN – On the current Xbox 360 Dashboard, “games” is the fourth tab to the right. It’s not quite hidden, but it’s buried in the middle of everything else. At this point in the console’s life, Microsoft isn’t concerned with games as much as broader entertainment. Rightfully so: More of us are using Xbox Live for entertainment.

Borderlands 2: Does Claptrap dream of electric sheep?

Borderlands 2 is one of 2012s most anticipated shooters. Its developed by Gearbox Software, the same team behind Duke Nukem Forever and the upcoming Aliens: Colonial Marines, but the details about the game have been scarce since last years unveiling at PAX Prime.

Not content to wait, GamesBeat caught up with Gearbox Co-Founder & CEO Randy Pitchford, Executive VP & Chief Creative Officer Brian Martel, and writer Anthony Burch to squeeze some Claptrap-related information out of the trio (along with the two pieces of exclusive concept art you see above and below). Gotham City Impostors Review (TechRomp)

Gotham City Impostors is an odd team based game. Its a crazy mash-up of movement and shooting set in Gotham city. As Batman is busy, groups of vigilantes dressed up in home made costumes and using improvised weapons fight for the side of the Bats or the Jokerz. Its grungy and ramshackle and has an absurd sense of humour to the whole thing, like screeching mohawked Jokerz or a guy with a Batman cowl and cape made of a painted cardboard box and a bath towel.

We won: On The Last Story and American release

Nightmare Mode analyzes the decision to publish The Last Story and wonders about the fate of the genre and why it took Nintendo so long to bring such an acclaimed game over.

“They take classic JRPG ideas and meld them with novel strategies, something which has to be exciting for any fan of the genre except the most hardened traditionalist. Because heres the thing: while the last two generations were defined by JRPGs (the Playstation by Final Fantasy VII, the Playstation 2 by Final Fantasy X and, in the minds of its rabid fans, Persona), in this one theyve barely been a footnote.”

GamesEyeView – Playstation Vita: A Hands on Review

GEV says: Its amazing what Sony can accomplish when properly motivated. Its no secret that Nintendo has dominated the handheld industry for over a decade, and the battle between the DS and PSP wasnt even a contest for Nintendo. PSP, while an ambitious system was riddled with many flaws, in not only the design, but execution of its features. The system was simply a portable PS2. It was clunky, uncomfortable to hold, and didnt bring anything new or ambitious to gaming. It was no surprise that Nintendos DS was the success it was. Times have changed for Sony. Going up against the Nintendo 3DS, Sony has finally released its new handheld, the Playstation Vita, and what a game changer it is.

Alan Wake’s American Nightmare – AUN Review

James writes – “There arent too many games out there with the ability to capture the very essence of atmospheric horror quite like Alan Wake. Thats for sure. Every little detail, down to the last creak of a door slowly swinging open is important to add that feeling of sheer terror.”
